   Formative checks teach. The learner retries, hints are allowed, and nothing is written onto a certificate. Roediger and Karpicke’s retrieval practice belongs here: a short recap with feedback and no LMS penalty. Summative assessment is the module gate. It decides whether a certificate of mastery can be issued, and it should happen once, after the practice activities have covered the module’s observable actions. Scoring every screen turns the module into an exam and raises extraneous load, because the learner cannot tell practice from judgment. Hiding the gate in an admin console fails the learner too — they need to see the threshold and the result. On Innovito Academy that threshold is 80%. Four of five, or five of six, is the pass. Below that, the gate offers a retry. It does not issue the certificate.
